Linux, OpenBSD, Windows Server Comparison:
Security Introduction
I think that when comparing operating systems, some of the
strongest opinions are expressed, and the most significant
misinformation is spread, when security is discussed. Especially
when an individual with a strongly UNIX or Windows centric
background discusses the systems from the other family, you are
likely to encounter gross misinformation. This isn't limited to
know nothing Usenet posters or even the trade press. It can even
be found in serious technical books from reputable publishers with
generally knowledgeable authors. One of my favorites comes from
the Wrox book, Professional Apache, by Peter Wainwright. He says
"Windows platforms do not support the same concept of user
privileges, which is one more reason why UNIX is the preferred
platform for Apache." He was obviously confusing the superficial
similarity of NT 4 with the Windows 95 family.
